Event Description

The United States accounts for thirty-one percent of the world’s mass shootings, much higher than any other nation. Researchers and policy makers have been studying the means to prevent such attacks, but equal attention has focused on helping people recover from them. In the first Mass Violence webinar in this series, we addressed prevention. This webinar examines empirical strategies to assist victim recovery following a mass violence event. We will explore foundational strategies from both a psychological and public health perspective.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- identify different types of mass violence;
- describe the human response to trauma;
- summarize FEMA’s Incident Response and Recovery Model;
- describe the psychological recovery cycle from trauma; and
- articulate public health applications to recovery.
