Finding Your Niche in Public Health: From Concepts to Action

Transform career confusion into clarity! Connect with peers, get expert guidance, and create your personalized public health career roadmap.

Public health spans everything from analyzing disease patterns to shaping policy, from creating community interventions to coordinating disaster response. With so many paths available, finding your ideal direction can feel overwhelming.

This interactive 90-minute workshop builds on the popular "Finding Your Niche in Public Health" session from this year's Public Health Pathways Summit—now with hands-on practice!

With expert guidance from Heather Krasna, PhD, MS, EdM, you'll reflect on your career values and identify patterns in roles that interest you. Most importantly, we’ll discuss the realities of finding work in public health right now.

Through small group conversations, Q&A with experienced professionals, and personalized exercises, you'll examine your strengths, explore different career paths, and create your action plan. This virtual workshop best serves those early in their public health careers and current public health workers seeking a career shift.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify your career values to use as a foundation for evaluating public health job opportunities in the future.
  • Analyze job postings of interest to uncover key themes, required skills, and alignment with your personal values.
  • Discuss the trade-offs between short-term decisions and long-term career goals and begin to map a path that balances both.
