
This session is part of NAHEWD's national webinar series Bridging HIV and SUD: Innovations in the Field. The series will highlight various innovative models and approaches to treating substance use disorder (SUD) in people at risk for and living with HIV.
Dr. Axelrath will discuss best practices in the treatment of non-abstinent patients with opioid and stimulant use disorders. Based on the American Society for Addiction Medicine guidelines and clinical experience, these best practices can be implemented in any primary care or specialty addiction treatment setting.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Outline the spectrum of approaches to substance use disorder treatment.
2. Describe 3 harm reduction practices that can reduce risk from using opioids and stimulants.
3. Discuss how harm reduction practices could be implemented in both primary care and specialty addiction medicine settings.
