When thinking about the impact of substance use and mental health in our communities these challenges cannot be seen as a separate area, but rather an integrated part of the conversation. When thinking about how to assist individuals with these cooccurring concerns one of the first steps in working with folks with intersecting identities is to be respectfully of the whole person. This presentation will lean into how to effectively connect with individuals who use substances and have mental health concerns using a whole person-centered approach and creating empathic spaces.
