In recent years, public health has seen a large number of young professionals entering the field. With fewer mentors due to significant turnover during the COVID-19 pandemic, and an increasing number of senior employees leaving the workforce, this has created challenging conditions for new staff as they settle into their roles.

The May session of Hot Topics in Practice will explore the personal journeys of four panelists early in their public health careers. The panel will consist of emerging professionals from around the Pacific Northwest region, representing health departments in Washington state and Idaho as well as Seven Directions, an Indigenous public health institute based in Seattle.

In this hour-long webinar, Brooke Ambrose, Emma Diffendal, Malcolm Clay, and Tia Benally will offer their personal perspectives on how they have remained resilient and found opportunities for growth in their careers. By the end of the webinar, participants will better understand some of the challenges that new public health professionals face and consider ways to support early career staff in public health organizations of all sizes.

Note: Live webinar attendance will be capped at 500 audience members and admittance is on a first-come basis. If you miss the live webinar, don’t forget that recordings of all our Hot Topics webinars are available on our free e-learning portal. Find out more at https://phlearnlink.nwcphp.org. An email reminder with a link to this month’s Hot Topics recording will be sent out after the webinar.

Closed captioning will be available during the webinar.
